The two major classical labels, RCA and Sony Classical, have collaborated to produce a special two CD set featuring 22 of Chopin's masterpieces, carefully selected and specially coupled. From Rubinstein's historic recording of "Lullaby" in 1946 to Kyshyn's "Raindrops" in 1999, the selection traces the evolution of Chopin performances in the 20th century. The selection features eight masterpieces by Rubinstein, "the greatest Chopin player of the 20th century," as well as rare and hard-to-find recordings such as Bleilovsky's Waltz and two nocturnes by Fu Tsung, who played "the most aristocratic Chopin," Kysin's "Raindrops," the first time it has been used in a compilation, and Nobuyuki Tsujii's much-talked-about "Chopin's First Solo Album," which is now available on the CD. Waltz No. 7, which became Cliburn's first solo album. The album also includes a piano trio with Yo-Yo Ma and the Axe, which uses the famous Erard piano that Chopin used before his death.
