In the "Mobile Suit Gundam 40th Anniversary" project, SUGIZO who claims to be a huge Gundam fan serves as the main music producer worked and produced the intro and outro themes of "Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin - Advent of the Red Comet", as well as the anniversary theme songs for the "Mobile Suit Gundam 40th Anniversary" project. This album includes all mentioned songs as well as cover tracks from various artists who came together for this release.

2019年に放送開始40年を迎えた『機動戦士ガンダム』は、多彩な作品の展開で「ガンダムシリーズ」と呼ばれる一大ムーブメントを作り上げ、今もなお新たなファンを作り続けている。「ガンダムシリーズ」は主題歌や挿入歌などアニメ音楽史に名を残す多くの名曲を送り出し、放送後に生まれた世代にも「ガンダムシリーズ」の楽曲たちは広く知られている。このたびの『機動戦士ガンダム40周年プロジェクト』には、放送当時を知り今も熱烈なファンを公言するSUGIZOが総合音楽プロデューサーに就任し、テレビアニメ『機動戦士ガンダム THE ORIGIN 前夜 赤い彗星』のOPテーマ・EDテーマや『機動戦士ガンダム40周年プロジェクト』記念テーマ曲を制作・プロデュースしてきた。それらの楽曲を1枚にまとめ、さらに、このアルバムのために集結した幅広いアーティストたちの珠玉のカバー楽曲を収録。世代を超え愛されるガンダムシリーズに相応しい、今だからこそ実現した夢の1枚となった。
