ポップアートの巨匠アンディ・ウォーホールのプロデュースにより、ボーカルにニコを加えて1967年にデビュー。アバンギャルドなのにメロディック。フリーキーなのに文学的。ロック界に多大な影響を与えた伝説のバンドの、結成前から、バナナのジャケットのデビュー作までの貴重音源を網羅した音源集! バナナ・アルバム (ヴェルヴェット・アンダーグラウンド&ニコ)の2002年にニューヨークの露天商で奇跡的に発見された1966年のアセテート・ミックスからは、ジョン・ケイルの軋んだヴィオラの継続音に乗ってルー・リードが朴訥に語る「黒い天使の死の歌」の別ミックス。暗黒のベース・パッセージがループする「ヨーロピアン・サン」は1分以上長いバージョン。更には完全別テイクの「毛皮のヴィーナス」や、「僕は待ち人 (I'm Waiting for the Man)」などが聞け、ウォーホールのファクトリー (スタジオ)でのリハーサルや、ルー・リードの「ビートルズはゴミだ」との生前の発言を覆す、「Day Tripper」のフレーズも聞かれるセッションも! またバンド結成したての時期に、ルー・リードとジョン・ケイルが残したサーフィンバンドでのルーのボーカルによるビーチボーイズのカバー。そして1962年にセルジュ・ゲーンズブール制作によるニコの「Strip-Tease」、さらには1965年にジミー・ペイジがギター参加したニコの幻のシングルまで、メンバーの未CD化の関連音源も収録。当時の状況、エピソード、曲目などの日本語解説文を内ジャケに掲載。Eternal Groovesの"ROCK OFF"シリーズから登場!
